The integration of nature-based solutions for water and soil management was the focus of interactive courses presented in particular by our colleague Fanny Gritten for the water part, at the opening of the AquaConSoil conference.
Co-organized by IIS H2O and Waste2Bio, this event explored four concrete cases in the morning:
🔹 Stormwater and wastewater treatment via nature-based technologies
🔹 Phytoremediation of lightly polluted soils with the involvement of citizen collectives
🔹 Phytomanagement on highly polluted sites, with the example of the Plant4Wasteland project.
In the afternoon, around twenty participants from all over Europe took part in a collaborative animation on the use of NBS for the management of extreme rainfall events, such as the Liège floods in 2021. This provided an opportunity to cross-examine the implementation of these solutions, with technical exchanges between experts from very different fields. A fine illustration of the complementarity of approaches… and the complexity of integrating NBS into real-life projects.
Well done to Fanny for her contribution, and thanks to all participants for the energy and ideas shared!
