Tool for analyzing potential risks when reusing water for agricultural, urban, or industrial purposes
Faced with increasing water scarcity, the search for alternative resources is becoming essential. Treated wastewater offers great potential… but requires rigorous assessment of potential health and environmental risks.
Safe2ReUse, an online decision-making tool, has been developed to address this challenge and to comply with European Regulation 2020/741. It is based on scientific research carried out as part of the Circular Wallonia strategy (Measure 31), in partnership with CRAW, and translates this into a directly usable operational service.
Its objective? To provide a simplified risk analysis using a semi-quantitative approach incorporating up to 90 water parameters and to propose mitigation measures when the risks are too high.
The tool assesses the potential impact of reuse for agricultural, urban, and industrial purposes on:
human health,
surface and groundwater,
soil and plants.
